No. 1774 ALFA ROMEO / GIUSEPPE CAMPARI
An extraordinary, monumental bronze trophy from the estate of the legendary Italian race car driver Giuseppe Campari (1892–1933), awarded to him for his victory in the 1928 Coppa Moncenisio. Campari won the historic hill climb behind the wheel of his Alfa Romeo P2, ahead of Borzacchini in a Maserati and Aymini in a Delage. The impressive, 66-cm-tall bronze sculpture is signed by the Italian sculptor Giacomo Giorgis (1887–1959) and stands as an outstanding testament to early international motorsport history. The historic Coppa Moncenisio, also known as the Susa–Moncenisio Hill Climb, was one of the most challenging Italian hill climbs of the prewar era. The spectacular route led from Susa up to the Mont-Cenis Pass in the Italian-French Alps. On July 8, 1928, the legendary Italian race car driver Giuseppe Campari celebrated a commanding victory in his Alfa Romeo P2. With a sensational time of just 17 minutes and 22.1 seconds, he set a new course record, relegating Mario Umberto Borzacchini in a Maserati and Giulio Aymini in a Delage to second and third place, respectively. This triumph ranks among Campari’s most remarkable achievements in the 1928 motorsports season and simultaneously underscored the technical superiority and performance capabilities of the famous Alfa Romeo P2. An extraordinary artifact from the pioneering era of international motorsports—of museum-quality significance
