1886, original Daimler "grandfather clock", the first high-speed petrol engine, the engine was developed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach , on April 4th 1885 Daimler applied a patent for a four-stroke motor that resembled to apendulum clock, therefore it was called "grandfather clock", the third testing engine, with poppet valve and surface carburetor, with a power of about 1HP, the "grandfather clock" version with a reduced engine size of 264cm³ was for the first time tested at a test drive with a float carburetor that was developed by Maybach, in 1886 the "grandfather clock" with a performance enhanced enginewith 1.1 HP (809W) at 650min−1 was installed into a coach (Daimler-car), the car body of the unique specimen was produced by "Wimpff und Sohn" in Stuttgart, first rides were made in March 1887, before that in August 1886 the "grandfather clock" was testet in Daimlers boat "Neckar" , in 1888 it was used in the airship of Friedrich Hermann Wölfert and known for using in the fire fighting pump "Daimler-Motorspritze", patent No. 46779, only from 1889 a newly developed two cylinder-engine was used in the both versions of the Daimlersteel-wheeled car, museum quality
