1903, handwritten driver contract by Emil Jellinek between Emil Jellinek "Mercedes" and Baron de Caters for the Paris-Madrid race and the Gordon Bennett race 1903..."...Baron de Caters undertakes to drive a Mercedes Type 90PS in the Paris-Madrid and Gordon Bennett races...by participating in the two races alone, Baron de Caters has the right to receive a vehicle built entirely by the Daimler works in Cannstatt...alternatively, he can keep the 90PS racing car..." Baron de Caters started on a Mercedes Simplex 90PS, with the starting number 27...that race which went down in history as the "death race" in which at least 7 people lost their lives, including constructor Marcel Renault, in addition there were numerous injured spectators, due to the swirling dust the visibility was limited to a few meters, so that the spectators went on the track and accidents were inevitable, finally the French authorities decided to stop the race in Bordeaux. 1907/1908, original radiator emblem "Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft - Wiener Neustadt MAJA" (The Maja Co Ltd. American Branch 230 West 58th Street, New York), brass, 6.5x9cm. At the International Motor Show in Vienna, the "Maja" car designed by Ferdinand Porsche is initially presented as a chassis. Production of the 28/32 hp car, initiated by Emil Jellinek and named after his second daughter (sister of Mercedes), started a short time later at the Österreichische Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft in Wiener Neustadt, but it was not possible to build on the sales success of the Mercedes cars.
