Bourotte (1876-1935) was one of the most important professional cyclists of his time and set a world record of 25 km in 21 minutes and 40 seconds on December 11, 1897 at the Buffalo velodrome in Paris behind a quintuplet as pacemaker. The racing bike is characterized by an unusually large chainring with a diameter of 40 cm and is considered to be the first bicycle with a chain lock.
